Register of Qualifications in Test Use: join or renew

Find out how to join the RQTU or renew your subscription.

If you're applying for BPS qualifications in Test Use for the first time, you'll be required to hold an entry on the Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU).

For your qualifications to remain valid, you need to maintain your entry on the RQTU each year.

Renewing your RQTU subscription

How to renew your subscription

You'll need to register an account on the BPS portal to renew.

Once registered, you'll be able to log into your BPS account and select the 'Memberships and Subscriptions' tile.

Scroll down to 'Subscriptions' and click on 'Renew' button next to the RQTU subscription – you can then pay the renewal fee.

Please ignore the renew button that appears next to e-Subscriber under the 'Memberships and Subscriptions' tile, as this will automatically renew once your RQTU subscription has been paid.

If you have a BPS portal account already but have forgotten your login details, you can reset your username or password.

If you're an existing registrant of the society, or if you were registered on the old BPS website but you haven't set up a portal account, you need to request your unique registration link.

Once you have the link, you can complete your registration on our portal.

My RQTU entry expired more than 12 months ago

If you wish to re-join the RQTU 12 months or more after leaving, you'll be required to have your competence reaffirmed by a BPS Verified Assessor.

The Assessor will then provide an affirmation of your competence directly to the BPS. We'll write to you enclosing invoices for each qualification, plus the annual RQTU fee.

What's the reaffirmation of competence process?

Reaffirmation of competence is required when a past member of the Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU) wishes to re-join the Register 12 months or more after they've left.

How can I get reaffirmed?

Contact your training course provide or Assessor and explain to them that you wish to be reaffirmed as competent in order to re-join the Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU).

What should I expect?

Your Assessor will decide what evidence they require to see, to be assured that you are competent in test use. Key considerations will include when your training was completed and what evidence there's of test use in the time since your training. The following is given as general guidance:

Test user's circumstances and recommended assessment

Completion of course less than 3 years ago and evidence of subsequent practice*

  • Review of delegate test report(s) to ensure competent interpretation and application of key statistics

Completion of course less than 3 years ago and no evidence of subsequent practice

  • Assessment of administration, feedback and report writing including key statistics

Completion of course longer than 3 years ago and evidence of subsequent practice*

  • Review of delegate test report(s) to ensure competent interpretation and application of key statistic, and assessment of administration and feedback

Completion of course longer than 3 years ago and no evidence of subsequent practice

  • Assessment of administration, feedback and report writing and understanding of basic statistics and principles of standardisation, reliability and validity and their applications to testing

*Evidence of practice can take a variety of forms, but should at a minimum include evidence of competent oral or written feedback.

The above are guidelines only.  The BPS leave it to the discretion of Verified Assessors to make the appropriate judgement on a test user's competence.

How much should I expect to pay for a re-affirmation of competence?

This information can be provided by your Assessor. Fees for reaffirmation can vary depending on the mode of delivery.
