Wellcome new appointment

Professor in Evidence Based Practice and Research at University College London, Miranda Wolpert, has been appointed head of the Wellcome Trust's mental health priority area. Also an adviser to the Department of Health and NHS England, Wolpert said she was excited at the prospect of a new 'super-field' of mental health science.

Her focus will initially be on emerging depression and anxiety in young people (which the British Psychological Society has identified as its policy priority for 2019). She said: 'To achieve this means bringing diverse groups together. Biological scientists with big data analysts; clinicians with community providers; social scientists with social entrepreneurs. Our task is to join together to develop a common understanding to create secure foundations for the emerging science of mental health. Together we can build a new future for the majority of us who will face mental health problems at some point in our lives.'
