Social media advocates

In this issue, we have invited you to consider the experience of being neurodivergent, but we can't know what someone's experience is if it is not our experience.

Our lived experience holds us in a box; our lives are full of unknown unknowns. Social media can be a tool for developing and widening thinking to support this process: holding a mirror to our own lives and a window into others. To capture the nuance, depth, humanity and sheer range of neurodivergent lived experience, we have compiled a list of neurodivergent advocates who give us a glimpse of their lives thinking around neurodiversity, and the wider Neurodiversity Movement.

To confront the issues raised when we think about ableism in the neurodivergence field, we need to expand our thinking and abilities into other areas of discrimination to understand and explore intersectionality. We have therefore thought broadly about what to share and included those speaking on being multiply marginalised and those sharing neuroaffirmative and trauma-informed parenting and professional practice.

These recommendations are our own as the guest editors of the January/February 2024 issue of The Psychologist, rather than those of the usual editorial team or the British Psychological Society more broadly.
