As psychologists, many of us go through years of training and supervision in order to help others through their problems. But if you were an alcoholic, or suffering with depression, wouldn't you want to talk to someone who had actually hit those depths themselves and bounced back? This article explores how the 'paraprofessional' service user can stand by our side to promote good mental health, and asks why we aren't tapping this rich resource more.
