With increased global migration the psychology profession has begun to provide services to a very diverse population. The 1991 Great Britain census revealed 81 nationalities, and Emerson and Hatton (1999) have predicted that by the year 2021, 10 per cent of those under the age of 30 will belong to an ethnic minority group. How to work with individuals from different cultures poses significant and growing challenges to the profession, with implications for both the teaching and practice of psychology.
