Nicholas James Moffat (1952–2017)

Dr Nicholas Moffat died on 17 July 2017 in Bournemouth aged 65. Nick qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1978 from Exeter University. He first worked in Old Manor Hospital, Salisbury, he then moved to Birmingham Accident Hospital and completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham. He spent his entire career in Bournemouth and Poole, Dorset.

It is difficult to capture all his achievements in a few words. He dedicated his career to working with people suffering from head injuries. He started a local supportive group HEADWAY in Poole, used innovative methods in memory retraining with patients and was consultant to Glenside Hospital for Neuro-Rehabilitation in Salisbury.  His first publication, with Dr Barbara Wilson, was Clinical Management of Memory Problems (also translated into Japanese). He was held in high regard by his patients, relatives, trainees and colleagues both in the UK and abroad. Dr Nick Moffat received a Lifetime Service Contribution Award from Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Nick will be remembered for his kindness, care and warmth to people he met either professionally or through his hobbies. He has a passion for collecting antique cars, clocks and engines. He is survived by his daughter. Rosie, his son, Thomas, three grandchildren and his wife, Tina. He will be missed by his family and for his contribution to clinical psychology.
