GPs and Psychologists

A response to a November issue article, from Professor Hugh C.H. Koch.

04 November 2023

I read with great interest the article by Pip Wood and Rebecca Magill about the introduction of clinical psychologists into Launceston Medical Centre in 2020.

Readership would be interested to know of the first such developments in Cardiff in the late 1970s and subsequently in Leicester, resulting in publications on the effects of Behaviour therapy on lowering prescribing of psychotropic drugs. Thereafter psychologist clinics were regularly established in many parts of the UK. The interaction between GPs and psychologists in general practice settings has been a very fruitful area over many years: GPs and psychologists collaborate well together.
