Paul Mooney, Elysium's Lead Consultant Psychologist (LD Services) and Assistant Professor is enthusiastic about both the role and the environment this person will work in. 'The Bradley Complex Care site is now established as a psychologically-informed environment (PIE) within Elysium Healthcare's Learning Disability services and we have received positive feedback on our clinical provision from our stakeholders. This role is to take it to the next stage: to develop it even further.'

'Our LD services tend to look for either clinical or forensic psychologists. In recent years, sites like ours have had to deal with more complex cases – ranging from people with severe Autism and behavioural issues to those who may pose a risk of violence and sexual (re)offending. As such, we're looking for a particular kind of person who can apply a range of specialist skills.'

'This person must be dynamic and creative. We're formulation-led and are averse to simply imposing one therapeutic model. Treatment must reflect individual's needs, with a primary focus on the person's need for safety, as many of our patients have suffered traumatic experiences in their lives. Our approach reflects a genuinely multi-disciplinary team-culture. Put simply, everyone gets on well and works together at the Bradley site. We don't just meet up once a week for a ward round! Teams formulate, create treatment plans, and deliver them together: psychological therapies underpin the service and they are delivered together, by diverse members of the team.'

The role will report into Paul and in turn will manage a trainee forensic psychologist, an assistant psychologist and two PBS Therapists. 'This role is primarily clinically-based but will involve liaising with external agencies, supporting transitions and referrals, as well as leadership of this experienced team.'

'There are around 70 psychologists working in different areas within Elysium. This has created many different psychologist networks across the organisation, helping promote CPD. In addition, I encourage the team to increase their collective skills and knowledge: recently people have supported to attend courses on PTSD, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Schema Therapy, for instance. We have a research network and encourage all psychologists to undertake and publish their work. The outcome of this culture is that there are huge opportunities for career development.'
