Editorial, November 2024

From the editor, Dr Jon Sutton.

15 October 2024

In this issue, I meet Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield to hear about her work, helping those who are 'talking about sad, bad, and plain difficult things'.

That can be a thread through the professional and personal lives of psychologists, and so it is here. Those working and living with cancer, endometriosis, addiction, end-of-life care and more share stories and views.

Talking of difficult things, illustrating psychological concepts via magazine covers that are clear, enticing and uncontroversial isn't always easy… see my comments on last month's choice.

There's so much more through the issue, including non-deceptive placebos, virtual reality, and David Robson on the 'beautiful mess' effect.

As ever, our thanks to the dozens of psychologists (and beyond) who make each edition what it is. If you would like to be part of it, and reach a large audience in print and via our thriving online presence, see Contribute to The Psychologist.
