Dr Jon Sutton introduces the issue.

17 April 2025

'A section in my book is called "protect your daughters, educate your sons'. This is very, very important,' Dr Jayne Meyrick tells us. 'If you want to do something about it, saying what's wrong with people isn't going to help. What will help is compassionate calling in vs calling out.' It is, she says, 'about how we grow men's ability to see a range of ideas of what a man can be.'

That thought is a thread through an issue which takes in gender-based and gender-inverted stereotypes, sexual violence and honour killings, the misogyny of medicine, feminist psychology, the stigma around male psychologists, themes behind the hit Netflix series Adolescence, and more.

As ever, we're here for your views, and you can find lots more around the theme – both new and archive content – via the website.

And remember, if you have a personal, practical and persuasive story of Psychology to tell, we're here to help with that, on [email protected].
