Dr Maribel Cordero was an excellent colleague and esteemed researcher. Maribel's strong drive and passion for science is evident in her many achievements.
Born in Barcelona, Maribel moved to Madrid where she gained with distinction a BSc and MSc in Psychology and received a Gold Medal prize for achievement in research work, awarded by Madrid City Council. She gained her PhD in Psychobiology in 2002 with a special award for her thesis. Maribel's research specialised in understanding the psycho-socio-neurobiological mechanisms of mental health conditions associated with early-life stress, and to develop effective psychological and pharmacological strategies to prevent and treat them.
At Manchester Metropolitan University, Maribel worked as a Reader in Psychology, and established a state-of-the-art Neuropsychobiology laboratory, which has been dedicated in her name.
Overall, Maribel was an inspiration to many colleagues and students at Manchester Metropolitan University and her legacy is strong and lasting. She worked tirelessly to support the growth of others in the department and across the university, which will not be forgotten.
Maribel passed away peacefully in February 2023, in Port Saplaya, Valencia. She is greatly missed.
