The American National Academy of Neuropsychology has announced Professor Elizabeth Warrington as the winner of its Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Neuropsychology Award. Warrington, a British neuropsychologist and Fellow of the Royal Society, has been called a trailblazer in her work on memory and brain conditions.

Warrington's research has explored how neural networks work to help us to perceive, remember and talk about things – which has helped us to better understand brain injuries. The National Academy of Neuropsychology said that Warrington had played a key role in improving the accuracy of tests to diagnose and chart the progress of degenerative brain conditions and identified a new neurological condition – semantic dementia – in 1975.
