Dad jokes and serious issues

Our Editor, Jon Sutton, introduces the April issue of The Psychologist.

14 March 2023

By Jon Sutton

It's that time of year when many fathers are trying their kids' patience with April Fool pranks – little tip, never start the morning by telling your young son that his school trip to France has been cancelled – and we're marking it with our cover feature on Dad Jokes.

Elsewhere we discuss some serious issues with three keynote speakers from the European Congress of Work and Organizational Psychology, to be held in Poland in May. We meet Andy Tolmie, Chair of the Society's Research Board, and Helene Ansell from the Education and Training Board discusses the transition to undergraduate Psychology.

We talk trauma and transformation with Steve Taylor, health psychology with Sula Windgassen, and include an extract from Freud's Patients: A Book of Lives.

There's more across the issue and, as ever, extras to explore on our website – so if you're reading this on our website or in our app, thanks!
