Many people with learning disabilities are suffering from emotional disorders, such as anxiety and depression. There are uncertainties about the level of disorder in this population, but it is likely that it often remains undiagnosed (Prosser, this issue). Psychologists may also often fail to realise how much can be done to help people with learning disabilities once their disorder is recognised.
