To Plymouth University it was archived EEG equipment – to the Plymouth High School Psychology Department it has, according to their Head of Psychology Ed Baines, 'revolutionised an otherwise sleepy section of the syllabus – sleep and dreaming'.
Baines reports 'a variety of successes and frustrations trying to incorporate it into our teaching'. Sam Goss and Chloe Mabin, in Year 13, reported that 'learning about the EEG machine, and its ability to sense human actions through even the slightest change in brain waves, was fascinating.
Dr Jeremy Goslin, the lecturer who came into our class, broke down the complex process and made it easily accessible for all. Having the opportunity to use real equipment that is used in psychological experiments gave a good insight as to what psychology involves.'
Ed Baines concludes: 'We have more recently gone on to further the link with the university, taking part as participants in some of their relevant research and visiting on several occasions to see their highly sophisticated EEG lab and other facilities. Many thanks to Jeremy and the Plymouth University Psychology Department as a whole.'
