Student Ambassador Activity

David Hancock – Open University

David has been planning events and activities within OU. He has also enquired about hosting careers resources on the module websites which can then be accessed by his fellow students. This has been escalated to the Director of Teaching at OU. David is hoping for a positive outcome.

Mental Health First Aid Training

Please complete the form below if you want to complete the training and can commit to one of the course dates/times below, where the instructor-led live (online) session(s) part of the training will take place.

It is important you only put yourself forward for the training if you are able to attend one of the courses below, and can attend both session dates within that course.

Course one
  • Wednesday 28 February, 8:45am – 4pm (There will be some work to complete in between this session and the next)
  • Thursday 29 February, 8:45am – 4pm
Course Two
  • Wednesday 6 March, 8:45am – 4pm (There will be some work to complete in between this session and the next)
  • Thursday 7 March, 8:45am – 4pm

You will participate in the course through a blend of instructor-led live sessions (the dates above) and self-learning activities through an online learning platform.

The self-learning activities are broken down per session, and must be completed before you attend your session.

You will:

  • Develop practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Gain confidence to reassure and support a person in distress
  • Learn how to guide them to further support for recovery

If, for any reason, you are unable to complete all aspects of the two day training course, you will not be able to qualify as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

Please note: there is a maximum of 16 places per course, and these will be offered on a first come first served basis. At the moment we have scheduled two courses for delivery, but will be adding new course dates throughout the year.

Please express your interest by Monday 12 February.

This session will take us on an exploration of what IP is (and what it isn't), the things that might trigger it, what the evidence tells us about it, and some case studies of techniques that have helped clients overcome it.

Pre-attendance

This month's session is around BPS Student Webpages. We have updated the Student Ambassador section, and we would like to hear your thoughts on it. We will also be going through some pointers on how to write content for our blog or student stories section on the website too.

Once we've discussed this, we'll have time for you to ask questions you might have or any ideas you would like to share.

As always, these sessions are optional, and we will record it for anyone who cannot attend.

We look forward to welcoming you to the session.
