Student Ambassador Activity
Tahani Baldwin – University of Birmingham
Tahani gave a talk about her experience of volunteering as a BPS student ambassador and why being an ambassador is important in representing the students.
Tahani is also the social media lead for the West Midlands Branch where they promoted the Careers Festival.
Hayley Brown – University of Wolverhampton
Hayley was interviewed to discuss her role as a BPS Student Ambassador. Here is a snipped of the interview:
"When I first joined the university I was very nervous, as I had been out of education for a long time. I signed up for the mentoring programme, where I ment my mentor, Emma. From there we become friends and aimed to build a psychology society together.
As the society grew I got in touch wit the BPS to see if we could have access to any BPS resources and for open days here at the university, which is how I built the relationship with the BPS's Career Manager.#Ashe was very helpful and asked if I would be interested in the BPS Student Ambassador programme?"
Al Payne – Staffordshire University
Al was present at the university careers event and had some great conversations with students and handed out several resources.
Al also designed some worksheet and pamphlets encouraging people to renew their membership.
Sana Rehman – Royal Holloway University of London
Sana did a lecture shout out and spoke to her fellow students about how to become a BPS Student Ambassador.
Whitney Lee – Manchester Metropolitan University
Whitney created an instagram account to collaborate with the MMU social media team.
Whitney will plan to share content related to careers, the BPS, mental health advice and her blog within the MMU social media team.
Tom Scourfield – Swansea University
Tom has been working with members of staff to get a dedicated study space for psychology students.
At the moment the university study spaces are scattered around campus and are often full of lone students
Tom is hoping that if a space is provided for students on the same course, student engagement will increase.
Katie Wagstaffe – University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Katie has been focusing on putting on events for the psychology society.
The first event was a crazy golf social activity, and Katie is also planning a Christmas meal and is holding a second handbook fair to raise funds for the society.
The funds will help with a psychology trip they are also planning, and they are also planning to host a debating activity too.
David Hancock – Open University
David attended the Wessex Branch AGM where he interviewed guest speaker DR Nicky Hayes. David asked Nicky about her life experience as a psychologist, her advice, the challenges for neurodiversity students, and her inspirations. David also interviewed Izzy Ball Psychology lecturer at Chichester University and Wessex Branch PsyPAG Rep Representative. After offering great advice, Izzy spoke of her passion and love of Psychology. David also attended the branch meetings and shared his ideas on future activities.
Asia Allen – University of Chichester
Asia has joined the psychology society at the university and has made herself available to students who have any questions about psychology or the BPS.
Asia has answered various questions about the student ambassador role and has sent emails to the university psychology department to advertise various events.
Halena Lad – University of Reading
Halena has attended student staff partnership meetings as well as a meeting with the Board of Student Satisfaction to discuss academic changes to final year students.
This was a great way to input ideas Halena had and to learn what students are struggling with and to see what needs improving.
Edoardo Luigi – Bath Spa University
Edoardo has been organising events with the university psychology society.
They are aiming to bring psychology students at the university closer together, in accessible locations of the common's buildings.
Theme for January – Engaging Pre-University Students
We would love you to think about how you can support younger students to consider psychology as a career option and as an interesting field to study.
You might want to speak with the school/college you used to attend to see if you can speak to the students there, and we hope the content in your Student Ambassador pack will be useful for any face-to-face visits.
If you require any further resources please complete the activity form.
