Student Ambassador Programme launched by BPS

These chosen individuals will act as a link between our psychology students, the BPS and the student committee to strengthen the relationship and communication between the BPS and its student members.

Above all the BPS hopes it will help students get the most out of their BPS membership, and ensure that student voices are being heard, both within the BPS and across the profession.

The programme will reform the way the BPS communicates with students and universities to ensure they are the first to hear about specific student-orientated offerings such as events and webinars, additional careers resources and more, helping us to fully support and manage the career opportunities and ambitions of our student members.

The student ambassador programme is also a brilliant opportunity for students to develop a range of skills and gain experience working closely with the BPS, offering valuable experience to add to their CV.

Sarah Ormsby, Student Ambassador for the Open University, said:

"A question that comes up often in my university community is 'what would BPS membership do for me?'.

I thought the ambassador role would be an opportunity to learn about the BPS and membership benefits so I can share this with other students. 

I hope to help with building a new, exciting community of psychology students and professionals, forging strong links and clear communication between universities and the British Psychological Society.

I'm excited about learning new skills, supporting schools outreach programmes and meeting others who share my passion for psychology."

Natalie Billing, Partnership and Careers Liaison Lead at the BPS, said:

"We are piloting this programme to help support and engage our ever-growing number of student members, alongside providing an opportunity for our student members to practice and develop their transferrable skills with support from a professional organisation.

Our student ambassadors will help to streamline our communication with psychology students and the universities they belong to, to promote events and webinars, careers resources and opportunities, whilst developing their own psychology 'go to' hubs within their universities.

We are thrilled with the enthusiasm shown by students who have put themselves forward for this role during the pilot, and look forward to rolling this out in September 2022 for a UK-wide launch."
