Responding to the government's plan to cut the NHS waiting list backlog, President of the British Psychological Society Dr Roman Raczka said:

"We welcome the government's plans to reduce NHS waiting lists, and the workforce will be vital to making these goals a reality.

"Retaining staff in the NHS continues to be a challenge, with many citing burnout and an ongoing struggle to maintain a healthy work life balance. Investing in psychologically led, dedicated staff mental health and wellbeing services will need to go hand in hand with any initiative to bring down waiting times for patients. Only then will we truly have an NHS that is fit for the future."
