The Social Psychology Section AGM will take place on Monday 28 August 2023 from 17:00 to 18:00 at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Campus.
Call for Committee positions
There are a number of vacant positions on the Committee for which Members can nominate themselves.
- Chair (2 years as Chair, 1 year as Past Chair)
- Honorary Secretary (3 years)
- Honorary Treasurer (3 years)
Please note: nominees must be Full Members of the Social Psychology Section with voting rights.
In addition, we are also looking for applications for:
- 5 x Committee members (3 years)
These positions are open to any member of the Social Psychology Section with voting rights.
About these roles
Chair
As Chair you will support the Social Psychology section in contributing to the Society's strategic plan and will act as the 'voice' of its members. You will also ensure appropriate representation of the section at Senate, and on Society Boards, Committees and Working Parties. Alongside this, you will chair meetings, approve minutes and respond to enquiries on behalf of your network. The role requires you to work collaboratively for the benefit of psychologists and the profession of Psychology as a whole.
Secretary
As Secretary you will support the Chair in managing the Committee. Some key roles include organising meetings, requesting and collating agenda items and liaising with the Chair and Committee to co-ordinate the AGM and ensure that appropriate reports are submitted on time.
Committee member
As a Committee Member you will be actively engaged with the workings and business of the Committee. You will be responsible for overseeing projects and events and will take on tasks as and when to support the Committee and fellow volunteers. As well as attending meetings and supporting with the delivery of the section's initiatives, you will also help to promote Society membership wherever possible.

Nominees must consent to the statement of interest for it to be valid and also complete brief biographical details of not more than 300 words.
This information will be used should a vote be necessary.
Call for Resolution items for discussion at the AGM
Members by the Social Psychology Section can submit their resolution proposals for the AGM.
Resolution items must fall within the Objects of the Society for it to be discussed at the AGM.
The item will be considered by the society or the Social Psychology Section Committee.
If the resolution item has been acted on by the society or Social Psychology Section Committee before the AGM, then it may be agreed with the member that the item will be removed from the AGM agenda.
If a resolution item is included on the AGM agenda, the member may be requested to talk on the matter at the AGM.
The following discussion will be minuted and if necessary, a postal ballot will be arranged after the AGM to enable the voting Social Psychology Section membership to vote on the resolution item.
Please note that only items that are included on the AGM agenda may be discussed; there is no 'any other business' at this type of General Meeting.

Only Members with voting rights are able to raise resolution items.
