Whether you love or loathe New Year's resolutions, January is arguably one of the best times of the year to reflect on past achievements and set our goals and ambitions for the next 12 months.

Towards the end of last year, we asked our member networks what they would like to achieve in 2025 and to share what impact they hope their area of psychology will have. Here are just a few of the different ways that BPS member networks aim to have an impact in 2025.

Raising awareness – Several networks said that they hoped to widely promote the benefits of their area of psychology to the general public. Some networks also explained how they wanted to make more people aware of the need to find a regulated practitioner in their area of psychology and what routes to qualification look like.

"We aim to share our specialist knowledge in a wider, more inclusive manner to the layperson, to get them excited and passionate about sport and exercise psychology." Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology

Member engagement – Networks hoped to engage their members more throughout this year. Examples given for ways this could be achieved included through events like annual conferences, offering more CPD training and using social media and online networks to engage with their community.

"We want to engage with the members through our work streams, including disseminating research through creativity and working with neurodivergence." Division of Counselling Psychology

Showcasing member achievements and expertise – BPS members do incredible work in their communities and workplaces, and showcasing the amazing work that members do was an ambition that was frequently mentioned by networks.

"I want the DOP to amplify both the work and the expertise of its members. This means creating opportunities to showcase the many and diverse areas of research, practical insight, and real-world applications that our members are working on." Division of Occupational Psychology

"Our CPD programme is a positive piece of work for those who want to maintain their registration and it's a superb opportunity to showcase the work that the committee members do." Division of Coaching Psychology

Supporting people with diverse needs – We heard from networks who told us that one of their aims was to make sure their area of psychology is reaching as many people as possible. This covered raising awareness of the different support needed for people with complex mental health needs and for people who may be struggling to access psychological support.

"We hope to keep supporting and promoting the inclusion of children and young people (CYP) in education, with a particular focus on CYP with additional support needs, those from vulnerable groups including care experience and those from ethnic minority backgrounds." Scottish Division of Education and Child Psychology
