Nominations now open for the prestigious BPS Presidents’ Award

We’re pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the President’s Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge.

20 January 2025

By BPS Communications

The Presidents' Award recognises a mid-career psychologist who has made a significant impact in their area of psychology through their research. This could be through publication in journals, books, championing research initiatives and supporting early career researchers.

If you know someone who you think deserves to be recognised for their outstanding commitment to research, then make sure to nominate them for the BPS Presidents' Award.

How to nominate someone

You'll need to complete a nomination form by the deadline, and provide:

  • Examples of how the person you are nominating meets the Award criteria
  • Names of three references to provide supporting statements for the nomination
  • A copy of the nominee's CV (if available)

You can find out more about the Award and how to nominate someone here. All nominations will need to be submitted before the deadline of Sunday 27 April 2025.

Previous winners

The Presidents' Award is one of the most prestigious honours awarded by the BPS. Last year's winner, Dr Yi-Ling Lai was recognised for her decades of research in the field of coaching psychology. She explained the impact of winning the Award and being recognised by her colleagues:

"I am thrilled and delighted to receive this award, as I always feel very small in my research world. Growing up in a traditional Eastern Asian culture, I (or we) were expected to follow a linear career pathway. However, Professor Almuth McDowall saw my potential and opened the door for me to enter the world of psychology and pursue my research dream in 2010.

"This recognition strengthens my motivation to carry on with my coaching research so I can care for and support the people around me."

The winner of the Presidents' Award will receive a Life Membership of the BPS and a commemorative certificate.
