New Professional Recognition Route (PRR) to chartership launched for Coaching Psychologists

The new route will open up opportunities for Coaching Psychologists to achieve chartered status with the BPS.

It has been developed to ensure that practitioners who meet the standards to gain chartered membership for the BPS through their professional training and practice in psychology, have the opportunity to do so.

The PRR will see those who currently have a graduate basis for chartered membership required to demonstrate they meet the standards by submitting a portfolio of their coaching psychology learning and practice.

The BPS believes it is important to recognise those who have met the necessary competencies over the course of professional practice and a career, as opposed to only through structured education and training. It is hoped that this route will support the BPS's drive to become more open, accessible and inclusive, and the home for all psychologists.

Marie Stopforth, Chief Assessor for the PRR, said:

"I am delighted to see the PRR come to fruition after a lot of hard work from members and BPS staff. We believe it is incredibly important that those who demonstrate their competencies, expertise and excellence through professional practice and 'non-traditional' routes are able to achieve the recognition they deserve with chartered status.

There is a growing awareness in many aspects of life of the benefits that coaching can bring to individuals and groups of people and the role of a coaching psychologist. This PRR route signifies a recognition of the importance and influence of coaching psychology and I look forward to seeing people, and supporting people to work through the assessment process."

The full details of how to meet the standards for the PRR can be found on the Coaching Psychology pages of the BPS website.
