Following an election process, Tammi Walker takes up the chair's role for the North East of England Branch until October 2027.
Tammi aims to actively represent the interests and needs of all branch members to stakeholders, ensuring their voices are heard in relevant discussions and decision-making processes.
She would also like to raise the network's profile by highlighting member achievements and contributions and is committed to continue fostering a strong sense of community within the network; this would involve encouraging active collaboration, engagement, sharing of ideas, and support among all branch members.
Tammi said:
"I believe that a united, inclusive and engaged membership is our strongest asset.
"I would seek opportunities to promote the network through presentations, social media, and collaborations with other organisations. This would involve sharing success stories, insights, and best practices that showcase the value of our members and the impact of our collective work."
Tammi has nearly 25 years' experience of researching and working in the field of psychology and mental health. She is currently professor of forensic psychology in the Department of Psychology and principal of St Cuthbert's Society at Durham University.
As a working-class first-generation psychologist, a commitment to and promotion of inclusivity and diversity, along with mentorship, are among key tools she would use as chair to help cultivate the growth of branch members.
"I am passionate about psychology and mental health, and committed to promoting and enhancing the accessibility of these services to address post-pandemic challenges.
"I have also done a lot of mentoring and would like to use this experience to support the development of members, helping them to grow their skills and confidence."
