Make sure you vote for our next President-Elect and Elected Trustee
We’ve spoken to a number of BPS members about the importance of society elections, and why you should have your say on who becomes our next President-Elect and Elected Trustee.
15 May 2024
The deadline for voting is 28 May, so make sure to use your vote to determine who fills these senior elected roles. You can cast your vote by using the unique code emailed to you by Mi-Voice on the voting website.
Make sure you read all about the candidates via their statements and election videos.
Nicky Hayes, current BPS President, said:
"We need your voice to make sure our society really represents your work as psychologists. So please help us, by voting!"
Dr Roman Raczka, BPS President-Elect, added:
"Voting is now open for the role of President-Elect as well as for an Elected Trustee. These are both really important positions within the BPS. The President-Elect will support me for two years before becoming President. The President is the champion and ambassador for the BPS, representing the views of members at every level within the society, as well as representing the BPS nationally and internationally.
"Please take the time to read candidates statements and view their short videos to see what they would contribute. I strongly encourage you to vote."
Dr Dan O'Hare, who sits on the society's Member Board, said:
"No membership organisation is worth anything without its members. Your vote at these elections is an important chance to shape the future of the society, by electing the trustees and future President.
"The candidates have different experiences, come from across the society, and all have a different vision about what the society should do and be. Now is the chance to use your voice by voting for the candidates that represent the BPS you want to belong to."
Dr Geraldine O'Hare, chair of our Northern Ireland Branch, said:
"As members, we have a significant contribution to make in selecting our next President-Elect and trustees. This is our unique opportunity to ensure we have the right people at the helm of our organisation with a voice, representing us all and a voice that we trust driving the future of Psychology and its members.
"I encourage you all to use this important vote in creating our future and that of the BPS going forward."
Professor Catherine Lido, chair of our Political Psychology Section, said:
"Within our BPS community, each of us has the responsibility and opportunity to ensure our society leadership reflects the true sum of its individual parts. When voices are lost from a collective decision, the outcome may not be truly representative of the BPS as a whole. We are all busy professionals, with many work and life commitments, but we must make time to choose the preferred voice to represent our views as a community."
Liza Walter-Nelson, chair of our Division of Occupational Psychology, said:
"Now, more than ever, voting and using our voice through voting is essential. We must use the democratic processes we have available to us to ensure that we get fair representation. This is true of elections outside of the BPS as well as within it. I would encourage all members to use their vote – it is vital we raise the bar on election participation!"
Professor Ho Chung Law, chair of our Psychotherapy Section, said:
"I believe all members are part of the BPS and share its mission. To ensure its success, we must exercise our right to vote as it directly shapes our organisation's future direction and leadership. Each vote represents a voice in guiding our collective goals and aspirations. I encourage each of you to participate actively in this process to ensure that your perspectives are represented and considered."
