Important update from the BPS
Dr Joanna North, President-Elect of the society, has informed the BPS that she is resigning from her role as President-Elect with immediate effect and will therefore not take up the role of President in due course.
23 August 2022
We would like to thank Dr North for standing for election and for seeking to make a deeper contribution to the work of the BPS. We wish Dr North well, and look forward to her continued contribution to our society as a member.
Dr North has asked us to share this message:
"It is with great regret that I am writing to you to let you know that I have decided not to go forward on the path to being President of the BPS and I have therefore notified the BPS that I am resigning from the role of President-Elect with immediate effect.
It has become evident that this role will bring external personal pressures on me which I had not anticipated when I stood for election. It seems clear that these pressures may continue and will affect my personal and professional life in a way that I have concluded I cannot accept.
I am deeply grateful for the confidence you expressed in me when you elected me to this important position in an organisation which I hugely value and which makes such an important contribution to our professional lives. I would like to thank the BPS for their support, and to the many members who voted for me. Your support is deeply appreciated."
The society's rules stipulate that, in this situation, an interim President-Elect will be chosen by trustees until an election prior to the next Annual General Meeting in 2023. We will keep BPS members informed during this process.
