The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has published updated standards of proficiency which apply to practitioner psychologists.
The standards of proficiency set out the threshold standards that the HCPC considers necessary to protect the public, and lay out clear expectations for registrants' knowledge and abilities.
Registrants must continue to meet the standards of proficiency that apply to their scope of practice as long as they are registered with the HCPC.
The updates to the standards fall into five categories – equality diversity and inclusion, further centralising the service user, registrants' mental health, digital skills, and new technologies and leadership – and we encourage all practitioner psychologists to make sure they aware of the updates.
Professor Tony Lavender, chair of the BPS's HCPC working group, said:
"The standards of proficiency are crucial to all practitioner psychologists and their practice.
"They are the standards to which they are required to comply in order to register and maintain their registration with the HCPC.
"It is important that those in training and qualified read and understand the standards."
You can find out more information on the changes on the HCPC website.
