Employers must do all they can to support health and wellbeing in the workplace, says the British Psychological Society. The call comes after new figures from the Trade Unions Congress revealed work-related illness is costing the UK economy £400m a week.

Responding to the new figures Chair of the British Psychological Society's Division of Occupational Psychology Liza Walter-Nelson said:

"This new data only reinforces the importance of readily available psychological support in the workplace. After all, mental health and wellbeing can be heavily influenced by the environment where we work.

"With cumulative sick days lost due to ill-health increasing by a third since 2010, employers must immediately take stock and do all they can to create healthy and inclusive workplaces. We will be contributing to the government's review on this subject in due course."
