Division of Counselling Psychology – Strategic Objectives 2024
In January 2024, the Division finalised its strategic objectives for the next couple of years.
29 April 2024
These objectives, and supporting goals, continue the commitments in our previous strategic plan as well as introducing some new key areas.
We have an ongoing focus on equitable funding for our trainees, promoting best practice in recruitment and employment and challenging misconceptions and misunderstandings about our profession.
We recognise the need for improved engagement with our members – to support your professional development and needs, and to harness your expertise in shaping practice and policy.
Wider communication and engagement with the professional community, psychological workforce, policy makers and the public is also an important area for development.
We will be launching our sponsorship programme for Clinical Neuropsychology Training, a mentoring scheme and fostering opportunities for independent practitioner research and the creative dissemination of research findings.
In the upcoming 18 months, we will have a specific focus on physical health, with the intention to focus on different areas of practice every couple of years.
Not included in our strategy document – because we were unaware of it at the time – is our work to ensure the future of the Qualification in Counselling Psychology.
The announcement in February of the intention to close this route was unexpected and has, by necessity, required much of our attention over the last few months.
The Division is committed to ensuring an accessible, robust, flexible route to qualification which fosters the diverse, inclusive counselling psychology workforce which is valued so much.
So – while not written into our strategic objectives – you can be assured that we are continuing to work with colleagues in the QCoP Qualification Leadership Team and the leads and volunteers across the Divisions.
We are delighted that we were able to convey the voices of our members and stakeholders in this matter, to halt the previous decision and draw a commitment to future consultation.
Proposals for the revised QCoP 2024 will be considered by the trustees in the next few months.
In light of new member network rules, and our strategic objectives, we are reviewing our membership grades and the structure of committees and working groups.
Look out for invitations over the coming months for opportunities to become involved with the work of the Division – serving our members, strengthening our profession and shaping policy and practice.
