Developing and growing: plans rooted in member insights
SGIP co-chair Wendy Kendall reports on the group’s strategy for 2024 and beyond.
04 March 2024
Last year we consulted you about what you would like to see us doing more of and based on this we have devised a new SGIP strategy for 2024 onwards.
This plan is rooted in the valuable insights gathered from a Café Psychologique held just after our Annual General Meeting and an appreciative inquiry-based strategy day held in the latter part of 2023.
The Café Psychologique provided an opportunity for members to share what they value most about SGIP and their aspirations for the group's future.
These discussions highlighted instances where SGIP excelled in supporting its members and celebrated the core values of respect, competence, responsibility, integrity, and diversity within our practices.
The strategy day involved a deep dive into four key phases:
- discovery
- dream
- design
- destiny
Members reflected on SGIP's strengths, envisioned the future of independent practice, and brainstormed actionable steps to realise these goals.
The day was productive, setting the stage for practical enhancements to our CPD events, networking opportunities and resources.
From these sessions, we identified several themes to guide our activities in the coming year:
- Leadership and networking: We're focusing on developing leadership skills, planning for future leadership needs, and expanding our networking to support the growth and longevity of SGIP. We will look at optimising the induction of new committee members and bringing them up to speed with the help of new approaches and resources from BPS
- Community and mentoring: Building a community feel is key. We're looking into effective platforms and tools to support the wellbeing and safety of independent practitioners and are keen on exploring mentoring programmes to further empower our members
- CPD/webinars, library/resources: We are committed to providing CPD opportunities through webinars and other online resources. Our goal is to maintain a comprehensive library of materials to support the well-being, safety and flourishing of independent practitioners
- Marketing & communications: Implementing effective communication strategies is vital to increase our membership and engagement
Our communications will centre around these messages:
- SGIP is the cornerstone for your growth as an independent practitioner.
- SGIP fosters a positive impact on your practice.
- SGIP stands steadfast in supporting your wellbeing.
- SGIP ensures your safety and security in the practice.
If you're interested in contributing to any of these work streams or if you have ideas to share, please get in touch.
We value your involvement and are always open to suggestions that can help us improve our support for independent practitioners. Your participation can make a significant difference.
