The DCP Minorities Subcommittee is recruiting committee members

The Minorities in Clinical Psychology Sub-Committee reports directly to the DCP Executives Committee and is currently comprised of DCP members who are post-qualification, in training and pre-qualification.

The Minorities in Clinical Psychology Subcommittee has been in existence since 2012.

The group's objectives are to contribute towards a better understanding of the unique needs and experiences of marginalised groups within the profession, to help support the personal and professional development of those who have chosen a career in clinical psychology, and to advise on issues of inclusivity and diversity across the profession.

The committee is comprised of organisers based on the areas of discrimination and protected characteristics as outlined in the Equality act 2010, for example Race, Faith, Disability, Gender and Sexuality, Religion, Parenting and Caring responsibilities, as well as Social Economic.

The committee and its members take an intersectional view of identity and marginalisation.

Tasks and projects that the Sub-Committee are engaged in include:

  • Events: pre-qualification and all-levels conferences (eg our annual Dclin application, and Interview events)
  • Research and Publications and community-based dissemination such as webinars and podcasts
  • Communication: newsletter, social media, conference representation and talks
  • Consulting and Co-Working; with wider profession and professional bodies Includeing the DCP EDI subcommittee.
  • Work with wider BPS and DCP initiatives, publications and position statements
  • Further Support: social media community. We hope to expand in this area. We welcome ideas and new perspectives around how strengthen a sense of community.

We expect committee members to work in alignment with the objectives set out in the BPS Declaration on equality, diversity and inclusion.

Taking on this role requires an average minimum commitment of 1 hour a week.
