The BPS’s Careers Festival 2024 provided students and aspiring psychologists with valuable insights and practical guidance for their careers.
19 November 2024
The week-long event saw over 2500 attendees enjoy a diverse and engaging range of speakers showcasing the breadth of career paths and opportunities in the field of psychology.
Across 88 sessions, attendees explored traditional career paths such as clinical and educational psychology, while also delving into areas including cyberpsychology, working within professional sport and new and emerging psychological roles in the NHS.
Alongside inspiring talks, from a wide range of keynote speakers including Professor John Amaechi OBE, Kimberley Wilson and Dr Adrian Whittington, attendees could also access advice on practical issues and topics such as using LinkedIn to boost your career, advice for students coming to the UK to study psychology and using psychology skills in media work.
Dr Adrian Whittington, National Clinical Lead for the Psychological Professions at NHS England and a speaker at the festival, said:
"I was very pleased to be able to speak about starting your NHS career in the psychological professions at the BPS Careers Festival. There are more opportunities for psychological professionals to join the NHS than ever before - for psychology graduates, other graduates, and non-graduates.
"There are roles for psychological practitioners, psychological therapists and psychologists. There are over 20 types of psychological professional. I hope that many who came along to events during the week will be inspired to start their careers in the NHS in one of these roles. It's a great way to make a real difference to people's lives."
For those unable to attend every session they wanted to, on-demand recordings and materials are available to ticket holders via Zoom Events.
Selected recordings from the festival will also be available for everyone to access via BPS Learn soon.
