Call for members to take part in London Pride
Expressions of interest for members to take part in this year’s London Pride are now open.
28 April 2023
Following its participation in last year's event for the first time in the organisation's history, the society worked closely with the Psychology of Sexualities Section to get its place in the 2023 parade on Saturday 1 July.
The 50-strong delegation will join other organisations, charities and groups who are marching to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
Rob Agnew, a member of the Sexualities Section who worked on the society's bid, said:
"By taking part in Pride, psychologists are making their political voice heard and saying loudly and clearly that we stand behind LGBTQ+ people.
"This is so important at a time when hate crimes are increasing against the LGBTQ+ community and global persecution continues to be a concern."
Brit Clayton, the BPS's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for member networks, added:
"Everyone has the right to live without fear of abuse or victimisation. Our involvement in Pride shows the BPS is proudly and openly supporting our LGBTQ+ community."
To take part in the society's delegation, you will need to apply for a wrist band by emailing [email protected] and answering the following questions by 7pm on 23 June:
- Please tell us in no more than 25 words why you would like to join the BPS delegation at this year's Pride in London?
- In one sentence, why do you think it's important BPS is represented at Pride?
- Do you have any mobility restrictions we should be aware of?
- Do you have any medical conditions that could impact your involvement?
- How much time could you offer on the day?
Please supply your name / email address / contact number / home location / membership number.
If you don't wish to/are unable to march, or if you aren't lucky enough to get a wristband to join the BPS delegation this year, you can still participate. We will also be having a range of other activities for members to get involved with.
Keep an eye out on the BPS website and Twitter (@BPSOfficial) for more details.
Pride takes place throughout the UK. The London event was chosen this year for a BPS presence as it offered better value for money and greater inclusivity than some of the other marches.
