Dr Nicky Hayes, President of the BPS, said:
"On behalf of the British Psychological Society I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the whole Royal family on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, today.
As the longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth devoted herself to a life of service and she was a much loved and respected figure across the globe. She fulfilled her duties with grace and an extraordinary work ethic, demonstrated by her countless links with charities, military associations, professional bodies and public service organisations.
The BPS was granted its Royal Charter in 1965 which was a huge privilege for the society, and our Royal Charter and Statutes serve as the governing documents of the society from which our aims and objectives are still derived today.
Queen Elizabeth has been an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of enormous social change and our thoughts and wishes are with the whole Royal family during this time."
