BPS welcomes its new Human Rights Advisory Group

The BPS is delighted to announce the members of its new Human Rights Advisory Group.

The group sits under the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Board and will provide specialist direction, knowledge and leadership on UK, European and International Human Rights in Psychology, in line with agreed objectives and actions across the following areas of work:

  • Civil human rights
  • Economic human rights
  • Cultural human rights
  • Social human rights
  • Political human rights
  • The human rights of the child
  • Human rights, disability and mental health

Adam Jowett, Chair of the EDI Board, said:

"I'm delighted that we have recruited such a diverse and talented group from across the BPS membership to form the new Human Rights Advisory Group. The group will feed into and work closely with the EDI Strategy Board and build on the work of the previous Human Rights Steering Group.

It's important that we incorporate foundational human rights knowledge into psychology education, research and practice to ensure that psychologists respect human rights and oppose psychology being used in ways that might breach human rights."

  • Dr Jennifer Meggs - Associate Professor in Sport Psychology and HCPC Registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist
  • Mrs Ekta Mistry - CPsychol Forensic Psychologist
  • Shakiba Moghadam - Lecturer in Psychology
  • Rozena Nadeem - BPS Graduate Member
  • Dr Carlotta Raby - Clinical psychologist
  • Rachel Tribe - Chartered Counsellor, Organisational Psychologist and Professor of Applied Psychology
  • Dr Tony Wainwright - Clinical psychologist and Deputy Academic Director

A chair, or co-chair, will be elected shortly and the Human Rights Advisory group would like to thank the now closed Human Rights Steering Group, chaired by Dr Derek Indoe for their hard work in helping to create this new advisory group.
