Parliament hosted a debate on maternal mental health this week. Supporting the calls for better maternal mental health in England, Dr Camilla Rosan, Chair of the British Psychological Society's Faculty of Perinatal Psychology, said:

"Mental health support for those who have just given birth is more important now than ever before. With suicide the leading cause of maternal death from six weeks to a year after birth, it is unacceptable that some are still left waiting for months and months for support. Mental health should be standard as part of maternity care to ensure wellbeing support is readily available after birth.

"New parents should not have to move heaven and earth just to get the evidence-based care they need and deserve, all while their symptoms potentially worsen. We look forward to working with the government to help bring an end to the postcode lottery of support once and for all."
