The government has revealed that there were almost 2.2 million more elective care appointments compared to the same period in 2023. Responding to the news, President of the British Psychological Society Dr Roman Raczka said:

"It is encouraging to see an increased number of care appointments being made available across the country. Patients should have timely access to the professional care and support they need wherever possible.

"But with over two million people on waiting lists for NHS mental health support in England alone, we agree with the Health Secretary's assessment that there is much more work to be done when it comes to mental health.

"The government must properly fund mental health services and grow the workforce, while embedding a greater focus on prevention. Mental health patients and their families will then begin to see the improvement in the system that is urgently required."
