The Faculty of Forensic Clinical Psychology (FFCP) was formed to meet the needs of clinical psychologists working in the forensic specialty.

About

The aims of the faculty are to:

  • Disseminate knowledge of applications and research to promote effective services, influence planning of services and policy in relation to forensic clinical psychology 
  • Promote the development of clinical psychology within forensic settings 
  • Promote the highest standards in practice, in the application of professional education and knowledge of forensic clinical problems 
  • Provide scientific meetings, opportunities for exchange of information and mutual support for clinical psychologists working within forensic settings

Award for Innovation in Practice

The Award for Innovation in Practice is an award that celebrates a fresh approach to the application of clinical forensic psychology.

Who and what is it for?

This award is intended to celebrate clinical practice rather than academia or research. An example might be the development of a service that delivers psychology in a radically different format, or embeds new practice drawn from non-forensic clinical settings. The award is open to anyone who is a Full member of the Faculty.

What is the award?
  • Certificate of the award
  • The award presented at the faculty's Autumn Meeting 2022
  • Conference registration expenses (includes B&B at the conference venue, and conference dinner)
  • An invitation to present their work at Autumn 2022 Meeting
What are the criteria?

A genuinely innovative service or way of practicing clinical forensic psychology
Recipients of the award must be Full members of the Faculty.

How will it be judged?

Applicants will need to be nominated. Any one person can nominate a psychologist. To nominate please complete the nomination form.  
The submissions will be judged by an awards committee that will consist of at least two faculty committee members.

Award for Outstanding Contribution to Applied Practice

The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Applied Practice is an outstanding career award for psychologists who have achieved an eminent contribution to the applied practice of psychology of Clinical Forensic Psychology.

Who and what is it for?

This award is intended to celebrate professional practice, rather than academia or research. An example might be a significant involvement in professional / governmental bodies regarding the development of psychological practice in clinical forensic psychology. The award is open to anyone who is a member of the Faculty.

What is the award?
  • Certificate of the award
  • The award presented at the Autumn 2022 Faculty Meeting
  • Conference registration expenses (includes B&B at the conference venue, and conference dinner)
  • An invitation to present their work at the Autumn 2022 Meeting
What are the criteria?

A significant impact on the practice of forensic clinical psychology, of an order sufficient for the contribution to become widely recognised as an important development.
Recipients of the award must be Full members of the Faculty.

How will it be judged?

Applicants will need to be nominated. Any one person can nominate a psychologist. To nominate please complete the nomination form.  
The submissions will be judged by an awards committee that will consist of at least two faculty committee members.

Early Career Award

The Early Career Award is an award for Clinical Psychologists who have shown significant skill in their application of clinical forensic psychology, within the first five years since qualifying.

Who and what is it for?

This award is intended to celebrate clinical practice rather than academia or research. An example might be someone who has made considerable service developments and demonstrated dedication and commitment to improving psychological well-being within forensic settings. The award is open to anyone who is a Full member of the Faculty.

What is the award?
  • Certificate of the award
  • The award will be presented at the Faculty Autumn 2022 Meeting
  • Conference registration expenses (includes B&B at the conference venue, and conference dinner)
  • An invitation to present their work at Autumn 2022 Meeting
What are the criteria?

Someone who has demonstrated considerable skill in applying psychology in practice and who shows promise for their future career.  This might be someone who is particularly skilled in formulation, intervention and evaluation; who has demonstrated growth and development during their first few years of qualification; and who has made some form of service development with demonstrable effectiveness.
Recipients of the award must be full members of the Faculty.

How will it be judged?

Applicants will need to be nominated. Any one person can nominate a psychologist. To nominate please complete the nomination form.  
The submissions will be judged by an awards committee that will consist of at least two faculty committee members.

Pre-Qualification Award

Nominees should have started the project being nominated whilst they were at pre-doctoral level.

Who and what is it for?

This Award is given on the basis of the following criteria:

Nominees should be General, In-Training or Full Members of the Division of Clinical Psychology at the time of nomination.  They do not have to be a member of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Psychology.  Nominees should have started the project being nominated whilst they were at pre-doctoral level.  Examples of excellence/ outstanding contribution could include: Contributing to knowledge in the form of an essay, research report, case study, published article or chapter, paper, thesis or proposing and implementing an innovation of practice.

Membership of the Faculty of Forensic Clinical Psychology is only open to members of the British Psychological Society.

There are three grades of faculty membership:

  • Full membership

    For psychologists who are Full Members of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) and who work in or have an interest or expertise in the field of forensic clinical psychology.

  • Affiliate membership

    For psychologists who are General (Pre-Training) and In-Training members of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP). Affiliate members may take part in discussions but may not vote.

  • Associate membership

    For General members of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) and non-Division members. Associate members may take part in discussions but may not vote.

If you are not already a member, you can join the faculty at the same time as applying for membership of the society.
