Meet the committee

Laura Hayward

Chair

I qualified as a clinical psychologist from Leicester in 2009 after competing my thesis in the area of dementia care and staff experience.

After working for six years in physical health, I returned to work with older people in Derby and Derbyshire.  My role is wonderfully varied and includes sharing psychological theory and current thinking to colleagues within the older adult community mental health teams, as well as working into acute care (e.g., crisis and inpatient).

My interests include supporting people, including colleagues, in thinking about experiences, processes, systems and communities through a trauma informed lens. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and continue to be influenced by Personal Construct Psychology, psychodynamic approaches and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  I am also one of the leads for the Mentalisation Based Therapy groups within my speciality.

I became a committee member of the DCP East Midlands Branch in 2020.  I have enjoyed being a part of the BPS and DCP, so much so, that in October 2024 I moved into the Chair role after an excellent induction by my colleague, Mike Marriot.

Lucy Redstone

Honorary Treasurer

I am a Clinical Psychologist with a specialist interest in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

I have worked for thirteen years in child and adolescent mental health services, across NHS, education, social care and independent sectors. I have a specialist interest in developmental trauma and attachment, drawing on attachment-informed and trauma sensitive therapy models including Schema Therapy and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. I am also trained to an intermediate level in systemic practice and am passionate about developing psychological understanding in teams.

I hold two clinical roles, the first within a residential school for young people with needs associated with Autism, ADHD and social emotional health issues. Secondly, I work across a children's Autism assessment pathway to embed Psychology within all aspects of the pathway from referral and triage to assessment and feedback.  Alongside this I have a small independent practice, with emphasis on working with adoptive parents and special guardians.

I qualified as a clinical psychologist from Sheffield in 2007, and have always worked clinically in CAMHS services, with my most recent work focused in eating disorders.

I now work full time for Nottingham Trent University, teaching across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules alongside various practice-based projects. My particular focus here is on the development of the graduate psychological workforce, such as the national developments in Clinical Associates in Psychology in England.

Please read my profile on the Nottingham Trent University website for more information.

Angela Baufeldt

Committee Member

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2023 from the Trent DClinPsy program. My thesis was in the area of healthcare communication specifically where there is an incorrect diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis found and how this can be communicated to patients. I was fortunate to have this work published in the journal Brain and Behaviour and have presented this work as a lecture at CMSC in Denver (2023) and Nashville (2024) as well as a poster presentation at ECTRIMS in Copenhagen (2024).

I work in a Paediatric Psychology Long-Term Conditions Team in Lincolnshire. Currently, I am inputting into Paediatric Diabetes teams at hospital sites across Lincolnshire. Alongside this, we are working to develop mental health pathways for other long-term conditions for children and young people with the aim to input into paediatric epilepsy and paediatric asthma teams in the not-too-distant-future.

I also work as a Research Tutor/Clinical Psychology Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln. I have research interests in mental health, children and young people, multiple sclerosis, paediatric diabetes, paediatric epilepsy, paediatric asthma, neurological conditions, and neuropsychology.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and EMDR for Children and Young People, and use various therapeutic approaches namely, CBT, ACT, CFT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions-Focused Therapy, and psychodynamic approaches.

I have been a DCP East Midlands committee member since I was a Trainee Clinical Psychologist and am part of the communications team.

Dr Indu Dubey

Committee Member

I am a Clinical Psychologist at Nottinghamshire Health Care NHS Trust and an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. I have a special interest in understanding social differences in autism.

As a clinician, I have worked with a specialist child guidance clinic doing assessments and early interventions for children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

Currently, I am working with adults who seek assessments for autism and ADHD and also provide specialist support for anxiety in autism.

As a researcher, I have completed three large projects developing tools for early screening of autism in low-resource settings using mobile apps and developed computerised tasks to quantify reward responsivity for social interactions.

My recent research focuses on understanding anxiety in autism and developing tools to evaluate the nature and presentation of anxiety in autism.

Alice Gains

Trainee Representative

My background in psychology stems from completing an undergraduate degree in Psychology with Clinical Psychology at the University of Lincoln between 2017 to 2020.

During my undergraduate course I worked as a healthcare support worker in various inpatient mental health care settings and volunteered for various local organisations.

I then worked as an Assistant Psychologist since 2021 in a children's neurodevelopmental team, and an adult mental health service.

While working as an Assistant Psychologist, I went on to complete my MSc in Health Psychology at University College London, before starting the Trent DClinPsy course in 2023.

I am enjoying the course so far and am fascinated by the link between physical and mental health.

Throughout my journey within psychology both academically and clinically, I have become increasingly aware of the importance of research-based practice.

Most of all, I am passionate about enhancing inclusivity of the profession, particularly for aspiring psychologists.

Since qualifying from the Sheffield programme in 2015, I have worked in a range of settings across the NHS, third sector, higher education, and in independent practice.

This has included work in an inpatient assessment unit for children with moderate-severe intellectual disability (ID), a community CAMHS team, a specialist CAMHS ID team, and a special school for autistic children.

I have held leadership roles in autism diagnostic teams in the NHS and third sector and, in addition to working in independent practice, I currently work on the Trent DClinPsy programme as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology.

My research focuses on relational and developmental approaches to supporting people with ID or ASD and their families, and I have published a number of peer-reviewed articles in this area.

In 2021, I co-authored a book entitled 'Meeting emotional needs in intellectual disability: The developmental approach'.

I joined the DCP East Midlands Committee as training representative in 2023.
