International Conference Symposium Scheme

This grant unlocks funding for BPS Member Networks to host a symposium at an international conference.

In recognition of the continued possibility of restrictions on holding physical events, we have extended the criteria for the scheme to both physical and online events.

Funding

  • Grants range from £1,500 - £3,500 and the initiative helps the BPS to showcase UK psychology to international audiences.
  • Receipts are requested as part of payment process. Please note, receipts submitted for payment must clearly show the full fee/s, state that the fee has been paid (not pending for example) and show the full date.
  • Each grant provides funding to contribute towards the costs of registration (for both physical and online events) and travel and accommodation (for physical events only) for the symposium convenor/moderator and participating symposium panellists

Assessment criteria

The Research Board is keen to support the participation of early career researchers within the scheme.

Applications that include early career researchers (defined as being within eight years of completion of their doctoral degree or practitioner doctorate in psychology) will be prioritised.

Applicants should explain the relevance of the conference to their Member Networks area of research, practice, or interest within the application.

Applications will be assessed according to:

  • Rigour, originality and significance
  • Relevance of the conference to their Member Network's area of research, practice, or interest within the application
  • Preference will be given for applications featuring early career researchers

Eligibility

  • Grants are only available to Member Networks i.e. Branches, Divisions, Faculties of a Division, Sections and Special Groups
  • A symposium is defined as a collection of papers on a particular subject with a number of contributors (normally more than 2), and a discussant/co-ordinator. Individual papers or workshops are not accepted

Conflicts of interest

Applicants must declare all personal and professional conflicts of interest e.g. if applying with a spouse/partner or other relation.

A conflict of interest will not prevent acceptance of the application but will be borne in mind by the awarding panel.

If we become aware of a conflict of interest that has not been declared, we will withdraw the application.

Please note:

  • The Member Network needs to have a symposium accepted or submitted as part of the programme for the conference

Final Grant Report

Every grant recipient is required to provide a final report on completion of their project.

These reports provide feedback for members and potential grant applicants about how the society has allocated grant money.

It also allows the BPS to assess the success of the projects funded within the agreed grant period.

If successful, you will be required to complete this form within one month of the project or event completion date.
