Survey of clinical psychology and practitioner psychology posts in physical health care 2022

This survey sets out to capture the workforce of practitioner psychologists working in Clinical Health Psychology services

08 May 2024

It is important to note that several Practitioner Psychologist roles exist within clinical health psychology (CHP) services including clinical neuropsychologists, health psychologists, and counselling psychologists. It will not capture more generic psychological input such as counselling services.

While recognising that clinical psychologists are the largest practitioner psychologist group in this workforce it was felt important to capture posts held by other practitioner psychologists (health psychologists, neuropsychologists and counselling psychologists) and where possible other psychological professions where these sit within CHP services. These roles play an increasingly important part in the CHP workforce.

It should be noted that Neuropsychology services are also well established independently, and this survey may not capture all of this workforce. One of the largest groups of practitioner psychologists working in physical health is employed in paediatric services. This survey will capture some but not all of this workforce as their workforce data is being captured separately.
