Young People and Climate Distress
- Climate and environment

Join us in Leicester for this talk which considers children and young people's psychological needs in relation to climate and ecological emergencies.
Drawing upon climate psychology research, consideration will be given to how adults can support their wellbeing through providing validation and care during unprecedented times.
Dr Gareth Morgan is a Senior Clinical Psychologist for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Leicester, and Youth Lead for Climate Psychology Alliance. Gareth became acutely aware of the urgency of the climate crisis shortly before the birth of his second child. After working through some of his own overwhelming feelings, he gradually began integrating thinking about his own and others' experiences with his long standing passion for non-pathologising understandings of distress. To this end, he has worked with colleagues to consider how our responses to climate breakdown can be understood through a Power Threat Meaning Framework lens. More recently he has been working with the Climate Psychology Alliance to develop the support they offer for children and young people.
Committee members from the BPS East Midlands Branch will also be on hand to talk to you about opportunities to get involved with branch activities in 2025.
