This is an virtual networking event where we will hear from Cyberpsychologist and Professor Linda Kaye who will introduce her book 'The Psychology of Emoji Processing'. This event will interest anyone who has ever wondered how we process emoji.

Are Emoji Emotional?

In recent years, the scientific study of emoji has grown substantially. This includes asking questions such as: "why do we use emoji?", "what does your emoji say about you?" and "how do emoji help us communicate better?" This talk discusses recent work which asks the question "are emoji emotional?" This has been brought together in my book "The Psychology of Emoji Processing" (Palgrave Macmillan). This talk will outline how different domains of psychology have approached the study of emoji and what these insights reveal to help answer the question about whether or not emoji are indeed emotional.

Professor Linda K. Kaye's expertise is in cyberpsychology, in which she broadly explores how online worlds affect our everyday behaviour, and how we can understand human psychology from studying people's online behaviour. Professor Kaye has an extensive publication record and engages in a wide range of external engagement activities. She is also a founding member and former Chair of the British Psychological Society's Cyberpsychology Section.
