Supporting Maternity Staff: Professional and Clinical Considerations
- Perinatal

About
This webinar will consider approaches to providing psychology informed support to staff working within maternity services.
The speakers will discuss the policies, theories and experiences that have informed their work at an individual, team and organisational level.
Together they will reflect on what has worked well, what has been challenging and the dilemmas working in the context of maternity services can present.
They will focus on specific interventions they have used and how they adapted and embedded them to fit with maternity services.
Maternity staff will join the discussion to share their views and reflect on what they feel should be fundamental to the work.
Throughout the presentation the importance of centring issues related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion when providing staff support to maternity services will be considered.

Speakers
Dr Jessica Muir - Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Staff Wellbeing (Women's Services)
Jessica Muir is a clinical psychologist currently supporting staff who work within Women's Services at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). She is part of a large and innovative staff support psychology team that provides responsive and proactive support across different levels of GSTT's systems. As part of her role, Jessica has been working for the past two years with staff in maternity teams to develop support that is as inclusive and accessible as possible. Jessica is passionate about ensuring that the complex contexts staff work in, and the impact of wider forces on their wellbeing, are meaningfully acknowledged.
Prior to her current role, Jessica worked in specialist healthcare settings with multidisciplinary colleagues to support children and families managing chronic health and genetic conditions. She studied Development Studies at University before training as a clinical psychologist and worked for several years with colleagues in East London to develop a community project that offered holistic, human rights informed support to young unaccompanied refugees. This work informed her interest in developing services in collaborative ways that centre people's rights and the richness of their experiences. Her work with maternity staff is also informed by her interest in systemic and community psychology approaches.
Dr Sarah-Jane Archibald - Interim Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Rosie Maternity Clinical Supervision Service

I have written and published a number of peer reviewed articles on debrief models for staff support on NICU and I currently deliver a range of staff support interventions across maternity including reflective practice groups, debriefs and one to one support. I am also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the DClinPsy at UEA and occasionally teach for the perinatal upskilling modules.
Emma Evans - Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Liverpool Women's Hospital
I'm Emma, and I'm the Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the newly developed Staff Support Service at Liverpool Women's Hospital. I qualified from Liverpool University in 2012 and have since gained a variety of experience in adult mental health, working in forensic services, inpatient wards, and community mental health. This is a new and exciting role for me as I joined Liverpool Women's Hospital in August 2022. We are working to implement the POPPY and INDIGO findings on the psychological impact on staff of work-related difficulties, offering a range of interventions and support.
