About

Sleep disturbances in dementia are very common and are cited by caregivers as the main reason for the breakdown of community-based care delivery.

The sleep disruptions exacerbate the rate of cognitive decline and increase the challenges of activities of daily living for both people living with dementia and their caregivers.

A knowledge of managing sleep problems in this group is important for psychologists in order to enhance their practice and optimise their treatment outcomes.

This webinar will describe the science of sleep, the impact that neurodegenerative conditions can have on sleep organisation, quantity and quality, and the impact of poor sleep on caregiver burden and the breakdown of community-based care delivery.

The session will then discuss the importance of optimising sleep to enhance activities of daily living, reduce the rate of cognitive decline and relieve caregiver burden.

Who is the Event For?

This programme is designed for practitioners to further understand and be able to explain the science of sleep and how different sleep stages are relevant to the experience of progressing dementia.

By the end of the webinar, you'll be aware of and able to recognise some insomnias and parasomnias which are commonly seen in people who are living with dementia and their caregivers.

You will be able to identify appropriate treatment approaches for these clients, and understand and be able to explain the significance of sleep quality in this group and be able to apply evidence-based interventions to assist both their clients with dementia and family caregivers

A recorded version of this webinar will be available after the live webinar.

Post webinar materials for this webinar will be made available a few days after the session.
