About

Engagement in Learning: High Aspirations for All

The Annual SDEP Conference 2024, supported by ASPEP and Education Scotland, aims to provide an exciting professional learning opportunity for those working across education within Scotland to learn and share innovative practice promoting engagement in learning for children and young people.

The theme for this year's conference aims to put psychological evidence at the heart of action to support the implementation of effective learning environments, systems and interventions across education to ensure engagement and positive outcomes for children and young people.

The conference will bring together leading keynote speakers from research and academia, and professional workshops outlining creative and innovative practice from Educational Psychologists and wider professionals within education across Scotland.

The conference will be held in the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) at Strathclyde University with a full programme and keynote speakers to be announced shortly.

Call for Workshops:

Along with keynote speakers, this year's conference will include 45 minute workshops in break out spaces, outlining work from professionals working within education across Scotland within the themes outlined above. The workshops aim to provide an opportunity to share practice and promote the wide range of work and research carried out to support engagement including:

  • the development of interventions to support the engagement of children and young people in school and community,
  • supporting the development of learning and teaching approaches to meet the needs of all children and young people,
  • implementing intervention and practices to support the development of learning environments to meet the needs of all,
  • developing a strong ethos at local authority or establishment or RIC level through strategic developments and intervention to promote engagement,
  • meaningful consultation and collaboration with children/young people, families and other professions to promote engagement and develop engaging learning environments.

Support will be provided prior to the event for all workshop presenters on different approaches to effectively delivering workshops and support can be provided during the workshop if required. We are now looking for submissions to provide a workshop at the conference.
