In this seminar, Dr Sarah Bunn from POST at the UK Parliament will describe how research is used in the UK Parliament and give researchers an overview and practical tips on engagement. In addition, Richard Remelie, a PhD student at Manchester Metropolitan University will talk about his three-month internship in POST and what he learned from the experience. Finally, the Chair of the Psychology of Education section, Dr Louise Taylor, will reflect on her experience of submitting written evidence to a select committee, and Dr Gayle Brewer, a PES committee member, will talk about her experience of giving verbal evidence.
Delegates will come away with an understanding of:

• Understanding the impact of research in Parliament
• Tips for presenting research to parliamentarians
• Next steps to take in engaging

Dr Sarah Bunn
Senior Scientific Adviser, Biological Sciences, Health and Medicine, POST, UK Parliament
Sarah is a senior scientific adviser at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology
(POST), responsible for POST's work on biological sciences, health and medicine. POST
specialises in providing independent, impartial scientific briefings for MPs and Peers. Since 2020 Sarah's work has been dominated by COVID-19, with publications for parliament on
vaccines, immunity, drug treatments, testing, epidemiology and mental health impacts.
Richard Remelie
PhD Student at Manchester Metropolitan University
Richard is a PhD Researcher in Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. Earlier in 2022, Richard completed an internship with POST which involved supporting the work of the Commons Education Committee.
Dr Louise Taylor
Principal Lecturer Student Experience, Oxford Brookes University
Louise is a Principal Lecturer for Student Education and Experience at Oxford Brookes
University, where she teaches psychology to social work students. She is a National Teaching Fellow and co-editor of Psychology Teaching Review.
Dr Gayle Brewer
Senior Lecturer, University of Liverpool
Gayle is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool and has doctorates in both
Psychology and Education. She has expertise in both Curriculum Design and Equality,
Diversity, and Inclusion and represented the National Association of Disabled Staff Networks at the House of Commons inquiry into Diversity in STEM.
