Future of Counselling Psychology- training standards
- Trainees and training
The Division is hosting a series of discussions with representatives from the Training Committees and BPS Workforce persons.
The discussion will inform the standards of our training and how we represent ourselves as a workforce for mental health and wellbeing.
Following a series of closures of Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology courses, the Division as well as members have been trying to understand the reasons for this.
This is concerning as course closures is effectively reducing the Counselling Psychology workforce, especially at a time when the profession has so much to offer to statutory and non-statutory services.
We recently published a letter in the E-Newsletter (2nd March 2023) explaining information that we have gathered so far from speaking to course teams.
We would like to further that conversation with our members in order to get a sense from you of:
- how you've found your training
- how well has the curriculum prepared you for the workplace
- what you would have liked to learn more of
- how you translate the ethos of the profession into practice
Essentially we want to shape our profession to have a competitive edge alongside the reasons it appealed to us in the first place.
