Effective consultancy skills are central to Psychologists' roles whether providing psychological views internally or externally to their organisations. The ability to influence others when putting new information across is central, this is easy to mess up leaving the other person, or people, resistant to new ideas. 

This webinar offers a practical guide to Process Consultancy, a vital professional skill for applied psychologists.

Target Audience

This webinar is for any Psychologist who needs to provide psychological consultancy and wants to influence using psychological evidence. This will be of particular interest to those who are new to consultancy or those who want to refine and enhance their skills. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify three types of consultancy, assessing the impact of each.
  • Explain the work of Edgar Schein and his Process Consultancy and Humble Consulting models, learning practical, 'how to' skills to enhance consultations internally and externally to your organisations, in particular;
  1. The 10 operating principles of Process Consultancy, behaviours to build the consultancy relationship.
  2. The 'mindset' of Humble Consultation, skills to help the client to solve the problem for themselves.
  3. A taxonomy of consultancy questions, four types of questions needed for effective inquiry.
  4. How to introduce new or challenging information into the conversation decreasing the chance of resistance.
  • Understand and explain how to decrease or prevent resistance and scepticism whilst maintaining ethical and professional standards.
  • Emerge with new ideas and skills to enhance your consultancy experience.

 

Presenter: Kate Pearlman-Shaw

Kate Pearlman-Shaw is the Managing Director of Pearlman-Shaw Consultancy.  She specialises in helping people to change their behaviours. She worked for 18 years as a UK Clinical Psychologist and leader, then for the last 18 years as a leadership development coach and facilitator internationally in private and public sector organisations. Kate has extensive experience running leadership development programmes, coaching teams and individuals, in Board development and as a sought after public speaker.  Since 2019 she has run her own company specialising in the application of psychology to meet organisational and leadership needs. She is a double Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, both as a Coaching Psychologist and a Clinical Psychologist. She is registered with the UK Health and Care Professions Council.
