Workshop 1 -"Nurturing the Nurturer"

  • Room CAD306
    13.30-16.30

The aim of the workshop is to;

  • Enhanced awareness of the importance of self-care among academics and practitioners
  • Practical tools for managing stress and preventing burnout
  • Strengthened connections between participants for ongoing support and belongingness in our community.

Facilitators: Dr Heather Connolly Principal Health Psychologist

Workshop 2 -"Perspectives on Decolonising MSc Health Psychology (Stage 1) Curriculum"

  • Room CAD302
    13;30-16:30

The MSc Health Psychology (Stage 1) curriculum is accredited by the British Psychological Society and confers stage 1 of the 2-stage process towards chartership with the BPS and requirement for Practitioner Health Psychologist approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. However, the curriculum has been framed predominantly by Eurocentric epistemologies. Infusing a decolonial lens into the design of the curriculum is essential for the programme to become more inclusive and relevant to meet the needs of its minoritised users and numerical majority. The aim of the workshop is to:

  • Explore the influence of British colonial racial capitalism and hierarchy on the design of the MSc Health Psychology (Stage 1) curriculum
  • Raise awareness of the importance of decolonising the MSc Health Psychology (Stage 1) curriculum as a crucial step to overcoming obstacles to global psychological theory, research, and practice.
  • Proffer recommendations and practical strategies for the diversification of the curriculum that considers and reflects the cultural context of all students, especially those from ex-colonies of Britain.

Facilitators: Dr Mike Wells, Lecturer in Health and Applied Psychology

The Division of Health Psychology has a number of allocated rooms on-site at the Leonardo Hotel Cardiff.
